Barrett's Banter: City visit is our chance to show we’re still a top team

Adam Barrett Adam Barrett

IT’S another big game this weekend as Leicester City come to Roots Hall.

They had a great win over Leeds United on Monday and are now on the brink of getting promotion.

They will want to finish off the job against us but we want to stop that happening and prove that we are also one of the top teams in this league.

We’ve had some good results over the last few months and now we want another one to really show what we are made of.

I’m sure there will be a big crowd in attendance which will make for an excellent atmosphere and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about.

Leicester are an exceptionally strong side and the league table reflects that.

They have experienced players and were really enjoying a purple patch when they beat us 3-0 at their place earlier on in the season.

Since then they have stuttered a little bit but the league table doesn’t lie and they are a big club with a big budget.

These are the type of games you want to be involved in and we go into it in good shape after winning 3-2 at Northampton Town on Monday.

It was quite a quiet game for me at left-back but it was an exciting match and one I’m sure the supporters really enjoyed.

Since then we’ve had a few days off to recover and rest up and now we’re ready for the weekend.

The other results haven’t been going our way with Scunthorpe United and Tranmere Rovers both winning.

But I’m still not giving up on the play-off dream and I won’t until it becomes impossible for us to do it.

WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HOLIDAYS?

AS you may have read in the Echo, I was responsible for Simon Francis’ new haircut.

I now fancy myself as the club barber but not too many of the lads are keen to take up my offer.

I wanted to get my hands on Lee Barnard’s ginger locks and sort them out but he didn’t want to know.

I don’t know how to do highlights — which is a problem — but once I’ve learnt I’m sure more of the players will be coming my way.

CUP SEMI-FINALS WILL BE GREAT

IT’S the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend and they are always great occasions.

I don’t agree in them being played at Wembley though as I believe that should only be used for the finals.

But they are always good games to watch.

It’s Arsenal against Chelsea before Man United take on Everton and I would love to see Man United go on to win it.

I don’t actually support them.

But I’m a big fan of Sir Alex Ferguson and it would be great for them to win as many cups as possible this season.

I think they will beat Everton but when you get to this stage of a competition anything can happen and that’s what makes it so exciting.
