I write this letter to tell a cautionary tale for anyone who may be considering making a personal loan of money to a friend or neighbour.
Before you consider lending money, the very first thing to do is to draw up a repayment schedule, signed and dated by both parties.
This is considered a legal document and could be useful should any problems arise later.
I am writing this because I am in this situation myself.
A not inconsiderable sum of money is owed to me by a neighbour and despite letters and telephone calls, this person is totally ignoring me.
Hopefully this person will read this letter and realise how deeply I regret ever lending him this money without first have made proper arrangements.
Please publish this letter and maybe it will help other people to avoid making the same mistake I did.
