THE current Leigh & Westcliff LTA winter season may have only just started but last year’s winners got their hands on their silverware on Saturday.
The winter champs, together with their summer league counterparts, were presented with their trophies at the league’s annual presentation night.
A total of 91 trophies were handed out by Tim Guppy, from league sponsor Original Sports, at the Saxon Hall in Southend.
More than 130 members from 11 of the league’s 16 association clubs attended the event, which was organised by Debra Rose and Sarah Jacobs.
In the leagues, Southend Lawn III went top of Mixed Division Four following their 4-1 win away to Kent Elms III, who are now third.
Richard Backhouse and Sally Marsham beat Elms’ Bryan Bone and Cezara Dane 6-1 6-4.
Scott Wayman and Katy Cox hit back for Elms by taking their first set 6-1.
But the Keith Brown and Dawn Stennett recovered to take the remaining sets 7-5 6-1 and put Southend two points clear of Invicta at the top.
