WESTCLIFF Hard pairing Joe Levey and Josh Onion bounced back from being a set down to claim victory at Leigh & Westcliff LTA’s winter finals day.

Levey and Onion overcame Rayleigh’s Steve Farmer and Steve Lloyd 5-7 6-3 6-2 to win the men’s doubles event after three hard-fought sets.

The ladies’ doubles final turned into a marathon event that also went to three sets.

But the mother and daughter combination of Sue Sergeant (Thorpe Bay) and Amy Sergeant (Southend Lawn) eventually saw off Rayleigh’s Lauren Duffield and Sophie Hart 7-5 6-3 6-3.

The mixed doubles saw Sue Sergeant claim her second trophy of the day as she partnered club-mate Martin Needs to a 6-3 6-0 win over the David Lloyd Southend pairing of Craig Giles and Lisa Gordon.

The men’s doubles plate match went to a championship tie break before Aaron Dray and Dan Wedge, both from Rayleigh, defeated Kent Elms’ Scott Wayman and Adam Yates 6-1, 2-6, 10-5.

Wickford’s Mikki Allen and Nicola Thain secured the ladies’ doubles plate with a 6-4 6-0 win over Thorpe Bay’s Elain Klein and Stephanie Moon.

And the mixed doubles plate was also settled by a championship tie break, with Rayleigh’s Dan Murphy and Sophie Hart beating the David Lloyd Southend pairing of Chris and Julie Rackham 7-5 6-7 (2-7) 10-8.

The finals were held at Hockley Tennis Club.
