DARIEN Lamb stole the show for the second year running at the Stellisons Junior Open.

The teenager had a comfortable 6-1 6-1 win over Roland Jones in the under-16 final before defeating Gianluca Broadley 6-0 0-6 6-0 in a three-set under-18 final.

The match swung one way then sharply the other, but the steely Lamb strengthened his resolve and produced some steady rallying to run away with the third set at Westcliff Hard.

Amelia Farmer also won two titles, winning the under-16 and under-18 girls’ singles events which were played as round robin events.

She powered her way to victory in all her matches, though was tested to the full in her match with under-14 champion Joanna Rimmington in their three-set under-16 duel.

Fittingly, Farmer and Lamb teamed up to win the under-18 mixed doubles event.

Rimmington battled hard to defeat the up-and-coming Evie Smart to win the under-14 girls’ event. The match saw some high-quality rallying and court coverage from both girls with Rimmington eventually breaking away to win the third set.

Andrew Berry and Max Chesher won the under-18 doubles against Broadley and Lamb in three close sets.

The match saw some excellent rallies and reflex net play, with the talented Berry showing real class at times with his variety and crisp shotmaking.

Two younger players who really stood out at the tournament this year were 11-year-old Evie Smart and 10-year-old Max Baker.

Smart coasted to victory in the under-12 girls’ singles and reached the final of the under-14 event. Her movement and ball striking for her age was exceptional throughout the week.

The talented Baker obliterated the field in the under-10s, winning the event with the loss of just one game.
