WESTCLIFF Hard secured Essex Winter Cup success with a 3-0 victory over Thorpe Bay.

The team from The Ridgeway club lifted the Don Barton Mixed Cup at Deanes Sports Centre in Thundersley.

Mixed pair Simon Chesher and Andrea Maughan defeated Thorpe’s Lee and Jade Blackman 6-2 6-1.

John Handelaar and Elliot Keane ensured victory for Hard by beating Matt Bell and Graham Boosey 6-3 6-1 in the men’s pair.

And Karen Poole and Fiona Stone were given a tough match by Rosie Clarke and Georgia Wheatley before winning 3-6 6-3 (10-7).

But Hard were unable to make it a double success after losing 3-0 to Essex Golf & Country Club in the Harry Brickwood Ladies’ Seniors Cup.

Karen Poole and Fiona Stone lost 6-4 1-6 (12-10) to Jenny King and Sarah Sykes and Sue Blackshaw and Sue Hookway went down 6-4 6-0 to Anne Burton and Fiona Courtauld.

Drucie Redman and Linda Vaughan were beaten 6-3 7-5 by Kerry Porter and Tina Newnes.

Rayleigh were unable to stop Gidea Park securing the Ian Pitt Men’s Seniors Cup for the fourth year running with a 3-0 win.

Garry Coombes and Steve Lloyd went down 6-1 6-2 against John Caddies and Keith Gilbert.
