THE McLellan-Perkins Trophy finals have taken place for the 37th year in succession at Kent Elms Tennis Club.

In a very entertaining three-set final, Andrea and Nick Spillet ensured reigning champions Sue Sergeant and Martin Needs had to work hard to retain the trophy for a fifth time. The first set was controlled by Nick Spillet who seemed to be all over the court getting to every ball, with his mum Andrea providing a steady influence and finishing off perfectly.

But in the second and final set experience started to show through as Needs and Sergeant worked hard to manoeuvre him out of the game and eventually run out 3-6 6-4 6-1 winners.

In the plate final, Dawn Collins and Bryan Bone came out on top in a very tight match against Roger Perham and Felicia Felice.

Both pairs dug deep and used every trick in the book to gain an advantage. But, with the crowd unable to call a winner and the match finely balanced with the scores at 4-6, 7-5, Perham and Felice unfortunately had to concede due to an injury.
