DAVID Lloyd Southend have revamped and relayed their tennis courts.

The carpet surface has been replaced by brightly coloured acrylic.

And coach Jon Lee is sure the refurbished courts will prove to be popular with the club’s players.

“It’s the best surface for player development,” said Lee.

“The cushioned acrylic is softer under foot as it has a thick rubber matting at the base.

“They are great courts for beginner to performance players.

“They also play very similar to the National Tennis centre.

“I think David Lloyd Southend now has the best balance of court surfaces in the area and I’m sure they will be very popular with the people playing on them.”

Acrylic cushioned hard courts are known to be a slower pace than carpet courts and are believed to make playing easier for all abilities and ages.

The courts are therefore also suitable for coaching and are now also the surface used for two for the four grand slams, the US Open and the Australian Open.
