SOUTH Essex players enjoyed mixed luck at the finals of the Essex LTA Winter Individual tournament.

Four pairs won their finals at the county LTA headquarters at Redbridge on Sunday, with another three being defeated.

Westcliff Hardcourts’ Matt Pearce won the men’s doubles open in straight sets and Westcliff Hardcourts’ John Harris triumphed in the men’s over 55 doubles.

Harris and partner Trevor Stone were a set and 2-5 down before bouncing back to win in three sets.

There was further success for Westcliff Hard in the ladies’ doubles open where Faye Watts and Sue Hookway triumphed, defeating Olivia Sofroniou from Steeple View, Basildon.

And the David Lloyd Basildon pairing of Rob Heaton and Christie Hale prevailed in the mixed doubles open in a match which went to three sets.

But there were defeats for Westcliff Hard duo Sue Blackhaw, Paul Lansley of David Lloyd Basildon and Sergeant in their finals.

The trophies were presented by Essex County LTA president John Tucker and tournament organisers Mave and John Blewitt.
