THORPE Bay IV beat Westcliff Lawn III 6-0 to move within a point of Men’s Division Four leaders Kent Elms II.

Paul Johnson, Alex Merenda, Dominic Murray, Ian Carlile, Jerry Bell and Ray Tucker won all their matches against Lawn, who are now second from bottom.

Terry Savage, Bryan Bone, Jason McGinley and Jan Thorpe won their rubbers for Elms.

But Westcliff Lawn III’s Bill Dixon and John Chambers beat Adam Yates and Trevor Noad 6-4 6-0 to ensure their hosts were unable to secure maximum spoils.

Southend Lawn’s first team went two points clear at the top of Ladies’ Division Two after a 6-0 victory at home to Westcliff Lawn II.

Amy Sergeant, Sophie Scanlon, Jo Day, Annabelle McCrimmon, Sally Marsham and Charlotte Marsham won in straight sets.
