THORPE Bay defeated leaders Rayleigh 4-2 to leave the teams locked level in their battle for supremacy.

Rayleigh were two points clear at the top of The League Division One before their defeat to second-placed Thorpe, who have now pulled level on 23 points.

Things looked to be going Rayleigh’s way when Debra Rose and Lauren Duffield put the hosts ahead with a 6-1 6-2 win over Kris Newbery and Holly Knight.

Dan Coole and Alan Rayner levelled for Thorpe by beating Mark Rose and Phil Alderton in the men’s rubber.

And Geoff Burdett and Sue Sargeant ensured a win for the visitors by defeating Gemma Smith and Neil Jacobs 6-2 7-5.

Revenge was sweet for David Lloyd’s first team as they beat Thorpe Bay 5-1 in Ladies’ Division One.

Thorpe had beaten their Eastwood rivals by the same scoreline earlier in the season but were not helped this time around by only being able to field two pairs.

David Lloyd’s Vicky Wilson and Sally Jackson shared their runner 6-3 2-6 with Sally Margerison and Heather Clark.

But Lisa Gordon and Helen Sharpe defeated Holly Knight and Carole Boston 6-2 6-3 to hand David Lloyd the win.
