Palmers tennis lads end with defeat
THE Palmers College Boys tennis team finished the Essex Under-18 League winter season on a low note, losing 5-1 to Thorpe By High School's first team.
The match was played away in very windy conditions and was not a happy one for the visitors.
In the singles there were losses for Max Thompson, Alex Coates and Charlie Kemp, who all lost by an identical 6-2 scoreline.
The doubles team fared no better with Thompson and Coates losing 6-4 and Kemp and Donovan being whitewashed 6-0.
Palmers' solitary victory was achieved by Michael Donovan, who prevailed 7-6 in a tie-break in his singles match.
Although this was a disappointing result after last week's comprehensive thrashing of Harlow, the season will have been a success if the team manages to stay in the highly-competitive division two for next year's spring/summer cycle.
Other players who have contributed to the Palmers squad this term, but did not feature against Thorpe Bay, were Alex Gee and Chris Jarrett.
All of the members of the squad produced fine moments during a memorable term of high quality sport.
Meanwhile, Palmers' tennis team is considering joining forces with the tennis academy at Deanes Sports College in Thundersley to enter a Mini Red team into the Essex Mini League in the New Year.
The squad, which will consist of two boys and two girls, will play a similar format to the juniors with both singles and doubles matches introduced.
