WESTCLIFF Hardcourts' ladies have made it through to the final of the Harry Brickwood Cup.

The team of Fiona Stone, Karen Poole, Sue Hookway, Dawn Handelaar, Linda Vaughan and Sue Levy defeated Billericay in the semi-final of the Essex County LTA competition. Hard will face David Lloyd Chigwell in the finals on February 24.

The Hardcourts' ladies'second team of Claire Hammerman, Alex Vaarden, Sue Blackshaw and Pam Cole defeated Danbury.

In Leigh & Westcliff LTA action Rayleigh II closed the gap on Men's Division Four leaders Thorpe Bay IV to three points.

Rayleigh hosted Leigh II at Watchfield Road and picked up six points fortheir 4-0 win.

Gary Luck and John Middleton won the first rubber 6-3 7-6 by defeating Paul Phillips and Julian Nichols. Then Neil Arends and Neil Jacobs beat Andrew Gardiner and Bill Dixon 6-3 6-1 to secure the win.

Bottom of the table Wickford put up a brave fight against Ladies' Division Three leaders Rayleigh II, taking both rubbers to three sets before losing 4-2.

Rayleigh's Claire Todman and Jan Cooper won 6-4 2-6 6-0 against M Allen and T Goddard, before Gill Whittington and Lucia Bigden beat P Baker and N Thain 3-6 6-3 7-5.

Kent Elms took six points off Mixed Division One leaders Thorpe Bay with a 4-0 win.

Steff Haddrell and Phil Stevens beat Jeff Burdett andSue Sargent 6-3 6-3 and then Mandy White and Nelson Okomi had a 6-2 6-2 victory over Trevor Margerison andSally Margerison.
