MATT Pearce was on cloud nine after ending the reign of Adam Webb at the Essex Winter Individual Tourn-aments.

The Westcliff Hardcourts player defeated Webb 7-6 6-2 to end the Connaught player's three-year reign as singles champion.

Pearce's clubmate, Faye Watts, made sure The Ridgeway club had plenty to celebrate by claiming two crowns at Essex County LTA's headquarters at Redbridge.

First she successfully defended her ladies' singles title by convincingly beating Anna Voyez of Danbury and Grove 6-1 6-3.

Then Watts retained her doubles title with fellow Westcliff Hard member Alice Dickens.

But there was bad news for Watts in the mixed doubles, where she partnered Alan Hill and lost 6-2 6-2 to Mike Ellames (David Lloyd Basildon) and Mel Hall (Redbridge).

However, Graham Goodale raised the Westcliff Hard spirits with a twin wins in the doubles, partnering Frinton's Colin Minton.

The duo overcame James Weatherup and John Marnoch 6-7 6-4 6-4 to claim the over-45 doubles title, before defeating the Thorpe Bay pairing of Graham Ray and Alan Rayner 6-5 7-5 to win the over-55 doubles.

In the Leigh and Westcliff LTA Winter Leagues a draw was enough for Southend Lawn's ladies to avoid relegation and condemn their Rayleigh rivals to life in Division Two next winter.

Karen Mills and Debra Rose gave Rayleigh hope of beating the drop by beating Sally Marsham and Jo Day 6-0 7-5.

But Kitty Livingston and Roz Fitzgerald fought back to claim the second rubber 6-4 6-3 against Jean Catley and Judy Barham, and ensure Lawn retained their top flight status.
