Fast food on back burner for teen Jake

MOST lads Jake Fitt-Spooner’s age love tucking into a McDonald’s.
But the Basildon boxer will have to forgo Big Macs and fries for a bit longer after his latest success in the ring.
The 14-year-old London champion secured a points decision in the National Schoolboys under-40kg quarter-finals and will fight in the semi-finals on Sunday.
“Jake’s problem at the moment is keeping his weight down for bouts,” said mum Carla Spooner.
“He goes out with his mates and they go to McDonald’s but he can’t have any because he is in training.
“But it’s all paying off at the moment and it went really well at the weekend.”
Jake, who trains at West Ham ABC, faced Joe Saul Bayliss of Hoddesdon ABC in the quarter-finals at Oxford on Sunday.
And the Essex fighter secured a 29-26 points win despite his Hertfordshire opponent being the veteran of 30 bouts and a former Three Nations and National Schoolboys champion.
The win made it nine fights unbeaten for Woodlands School pupil Jake, who will now be fighting in the semi-finals at Feltham, Middlesex, on Sunday.
He is still to discover who his opponent will be.
