A subdued Sean O'Driscoll warned his Doncaster side it was only "a job half done" after they secured their place in the Coca-Cola League One play-off final.

Rovers booked an all-Yorkshire showdown with Leeds at Wembley on May 25 after a stunning 5-1 victory over a Southend side who had lost just one of their last 16 games going into the encounter.

Captain Brian Stock opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the eighth minute after Peter Clarke had brought down Jason Price in the area.

Adam Barrett's own goal doubled the home side's lead shortly after, while James Coppinger added a solo third prior to the break.

Coppinger then contributed his second with another virtuoso strike just minutes after the restart before his precise free-kick completed the rout.

"I thought we matched their determination, which is what we wanted to do," said O'Driscoll.

"It's back to work on Monday, we're not getting carried away. It's a Yorkshire derby at Wembley and the job's half done. We want to finish it against a very good Leeds team.

"We've performed like that for most of the season and sometimes you don't get your just rewards. It's just fitting that, in a game like this, we've finished off some off the moves that we've been creating all season.

"I'm surprised at how emphatic the victory was, it was tight down there (in the first leg) but goals change games.

"We can get goals from everywhere and I think we showed that here."

O'Driscoll acknowledged that Leeds will be favourites going into the final, but also insisted counterpart Gary McAllister would not be underestimating the challenge they will come up against.

When asked if Leeds will be the more fancied side, O'Driscoll said: "Yes, I suppose so. But it depends what Leeds do.

"I don't suppose Gary McAllister will put that message to his players, he's too good a manager to do that.

"We're both going to be prepared and we've both got our foot in the door of playing in the Championship.

"One of us is going to go through. But we'll try and do our best to make sure it's going to be us.

"It's a Yorkshire derby so it will be a good occasion for everybody.

"We want to win it. It's a job and we're back to work on Monday to try and repeat what we've done here."

Nicky Bailey netted a late strike for Southend but it was mere consolation as the visitors' hopes of an immediate return to the Championship were blown away. But Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson was honourable in defeat and had nothing but praise for Doncaster.

"Credit to them, they played really well and deserved to beat us," he acknowledged. "I said before the home tie that they were the best footballing side in our league and I think they proved it here.

"I'd love to see Doncaster go on and get into the Championship.

"At the end of the day, we did well to get where we did this year and we've got to build for next season now.

"I've just said to the players, 'it's gone', and we've got to work hard at pre-season and hopefully look to win promotion next year.

"It's taken us 47 games to get here and you don't become a bad side overnight."

First of all the southend fans were fantastic but its a shame the players were the opposite I think we defended very poorly and gave the ball away to easily Plus what has happened to the goals the last few games i mean our strike force was non existant throughtout both legs.

Well done to every supporter that was there. You were immense last night and you did our club and town proud. In a week where the big guns like Rangers tarnish the game, SUFC show the world how to support your team. I'm proud to be a Shrimper !!

doncaster were the better side on the night but im not gonna let it go the referee was a total joke, if u have watched any of these playoffs u could see a different stance taken on refereeing, all that work to get there and the refs given soft pens after 10 mins. im gonna write to sky aswell to suggest they get some southern commentators to even it up a bit as they were totally biast. well done to the fans thats about it. ive stuck up for every player this season but barrett was awful walker was **** and im very depressed this saturday morning.

Very proud of our wonderful away support. They gave their 'all' right until the end.Shame the same cannot be said about the team. What a complete waste of a season.Last night I was embarrassed for them.Their performance was a disgrace.

The atmosphere was great up there, once they got their fourth our fans started outsinging donny, everyone knew it was over and all credit to doncaster, they played fantastically.
I'm wary of being too critical of our lot, its hard to deal with a team in that kind of form, but we did play and defend poorly, failing to pick up runners from deep especially and being too hesitant to put a tackle in. No-one played great, Moussa was probably our best player simply for the lack of mistakes he made. I think we're well positioned for next season though, transfer targets for me have to be a bigger striker to mix things up like Price or Mccammon for doncaster and more strength in depth in midfield, and a right winger.

Well said Ad, in terms of sheer fan support Southend were the best, but overall a very disappointing game.

I can only guess what might have happened if Walker had scored with that crossbar effort and the ref hadn't been so ****. Credit to Donny though, they were the better team, hope they beat leeds

Tribute to the travelling fans they did a good job to rouse their team.
The team were out classed out thought and out played. Perhaps Tilson in future will save his money and buy a couple of decent players instead of players like Ravell, Harold and other inept players that he has bought.

Shell Shocked & Gutted!!!
When you love the blues its hard to critise any individual player, but i think we know we only have half the quaility team we need to progress. The Shrimper crowd were fantastic, and a credit to the club, and i would like to think that at the end the Donnie fans that came over were applauding our support. After watching poor Flav's pick the ball out of the back of net 5x times, reffing of the lowest standard, my heart was lifted by seeing the Blues fans given good TV coverage of out singing Donnie and behaving in away that makes me PROUD to be a shrimper!!!

Southend simply do not defend as a team. The midfield was absolutley no where to be seen, that exposed our defence on made it easier for them. Plus I will add take a look at how many shots on target they had to how many goals they scored. You'll find they had a nearly 100% success rate. Copppinger has hardly scored all season yet bagged three great goals. A debatable penalty decision, a great chance missed by us before they scored and a dodgy ref all contributed to our downfall. Plus I don't undertstand what Tilson refused to change the formation of his team when it was obvious 4-4-2 wasn't working. Finally you can't fault the players efforts and having seen Clarkie on t.v I've seen how much it meant to the players to let them great fans down. Lets not rely on playoffs next season, start the season from the first game and we'll do great!

Why wasn`t our most experienced (and best) player, Kevin Maher, in the squad. What has he done to be ignored in the selection precess. We had no midfield in either Doncaster games.

Well, firstly as you have all said, the Blues fans were fantastic. I am very proud of them.
Regarding the match, we were clearly off form that night and did make some major errors. Never in the match apart from 'the Walker miss'. Donny however were on top form for the 90 minutes. Well done to them and I hope they beat Leeds.
We have a core of 6 or so players who are top class. I am sure with some good signings we will be an even better team next year.
Keep the faith guys and fill Roots Hall for next season.
Up the blues !!!!

Fans fantastic - team went missing I'm afraid. Doncaster were excellent no doubt but if we look at the goals, some were stoppable. The penalty was dubious; Barrett could easily have had one when he was shoved over off the ball a bit later. The own goal was the lack of confidence in Flavs coming for high balls hence Barrett and Clarke in each others way trying to cover him. Sign a 6'4" keeper please.

Coppinger's freekick was top class but should he have ben allowed to run past 5 men twice for the others?

Walker cannot finish - he should have buried one at Roots Hall early in the second half and of course last night. Go back to Charlton and stay there. Tilson needs to sign two more strikers - Harrold and McDonald simply not up to it and Revell? - is he a striker?

Bailey has been excellent but had two poor back-to-back games that let us down, McCormack showed no aggression at all last night.

Disappointing because we have been solid virtually all season. Good luck Donny because you are a top team but we made them look like Brazil.

Agree with some other comments about northern bias - the media wanted Leeds Forest final, second best Donny. At least we wont get patronised any more.

Rant over.

Never have I been as proud to be a Southend fan, than I was last night. Everything has been said above about our sub-standard performance, but 5-0 down, and every fan jumping, singing and cheering as though we were 5-0 up will stay with me forever. It was a pleasure to be a part of it

the atmosphere in the keepmoat was fantastic and i was proud to be there as a blues fan. our coach broke down just outside doncaster on the way back and we didn't get back to roots hall til 5.15am. there was a load of obnoxious morons on the coach who ruined it for everyone else. but it was still great being at the match

I was there last night and can quite proudly place myself at 5th in the original conga line that started as soon as they scored their 4th goal. There was never a break, They scored the penalty but we carried on, they scored a second and a third but still we carried on! Then the second half came and we started all over again, they netted a 4th and nobody cared! We started a conga line and sang louder than i've ever heard, we completely outsang Doncaster and could have probably outsang a premiership crowd. I'm sorry to say it but our home support of late has been a complete shambles. Sitting in the south stand is like sitting in a library. If we can show the lads the support that we did last night at every game next season then we will make it to where we belong, The Championship.

I cannot beleive what I saw live on SKY - It's easy for me to sit here and point fingers so I will not bother. We were playing a team of 12 with the ref being a stupid fool. It would have been 13 if it wasn't for our fans, they sung their lungs out - 2,000 v 11,000 - I was thinking that at 3-0 they would start leaving on mass. But no, these people are a credit to the club, town and the game. Uncle Ron should give you a discount for next season! Uncle Ron, are you going to look after these people, they were your unpaid army last night?

What an atmosphere on Friday. I think we did the club proud.

I thought it was a soft penalty. If we'd had a league 1 referee, would have been given? Also, were just getting back in the match when just 2 minutes of additional time was added on. You got the feeling this was done because they knew a pitch invasion was going to happen. The linesman sprinted across the pitch before the final whistle went.

With regard the team, we've only really got 11 players, we don't really have players on the bench to change things, either in defence, midfield or attack.

We should have had Maher on the bench, and if fit, Scannell instead of Black.

Our best player was Moussa, who'd just 6 starts, yet the experienced Bailey was awful. I know he gets goals, but he gave the ball away continually throughout the game.

Gower did his best but the rest didn't really show up. If only Walker had put his chance away.

I hesitate to criticise Steve Tilson, but the tactics and team selection on Friday were odd, given what happened in the previous leg at Roots Hall.
The midfield were completely overrun in both legs, and we needed Maher's calm assurance. I am not saying that we would have won, but it would not have been 5-1.
I was astounded that he was not even in the squad for the return leg.
