Bids are in to produce town centre masterplan
3:00pm Tuesday 25th November 2008 in FORUM
BIDS are in for a £100,000 contract to produce a masterplan for the regeneration of Canvey Town Centre.
The Castle Point Regener- ation Partnership, which includes representatives from the council and Essex County Council, is currently examining pitches from a number of consultants hoping to win the contract.
Castle Point’s cabinet will make the final decision in January about which consultant to take on and they will then have until September to produce the plan.
Council leader Pam Challis said: “Masterplanning is an important part of the regeneration process.
“It ensures development takes place in the best way possible, is a focus for public consultation and it makes sure that resources are targeted to the right places.
“A strong masterplan is also necessary if we are to make the best of the exciting opportunities for the future of Canvey Island’s town centre.”
Thames Gateway has earmarked £2.3 million to revamp parts of Castle Point.
The partnership now has to show how it plans to spend the money before the cash will be released. It is likely £1.3 million will be spent on the borough’s town centres, including Canvey, and £1million will go on improving the Charfleets and Manor Road trading estates.

According to the councils web site regeneration of Canvey has 'halted'. So why waste hundreds of thousands of pounds on consultants to produce bold and imaginative schemes that will never see the light of day.

Even if it was still possible would we get what Canvey wants or would it be Officer lead cabinet puppets?

of course there will be lots of hogwash to decide who gets the contract, and why not when those councillors get paid to sit and talk about for half a dozen meetings, and probably how much they will get out of it, especially if the contract is won by a friend or relative of a councillor, treat all councillors with caution as to their true motives
