THURROCK Council has begun the tendering process for a reuse and recycling project in West Thurrock, after securing land and planning permission.
The Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation has put nearly £1million into the project that will involve the creation of a new civic amenity site with a custom-built reuse facility, which will be complete and ready for use from the Summer 2009.
Thurrock Council is currently looking for tenders from not-for-profit or voluntary organisations to utilise the reusable material from both the civic amenity site and the bulky waste collection service.
The facility will be a collection facility and workshop rather than a retail outlet, and as such, it will be the responsibility of the successful organisation to provide any retail operation at another site.
Thurrock Council’s Cabinet member for Environmental Services, Coun Steve Veryard, said: “We, as a council, have worked hard to secure funding for this new civic amenity site for residents living in the west of the borough and I am delighted that the project is now underway.“ Voluntary and not-for-profit organisations wishing to register interest in this project should contact Anna Burns on 01375 413619 or visit the Thurrock Council Procurement website (www.thurrock.gov.uk/business/content.php?page=contract_opportunities) for more information, and a pre qualification questionnaire (PQQs).
PQQs must be returned to the council by 4pm on Friday January 9, 2009.
