MORE than 40 energetic dogs and their owners took part in a sponsored walk with a difference.
The Autumn Sponsored Dog Walk saw canine lovers and their pets raise money for St Luke’s Hospice, in Basildon, by tackling two different courses in Westley Heights Country Park, Langdon Hills.
The animals and their owners walked either a one-mile or four-mile course around the park and successfully raised £500 for the charity.
Prizes for the best behaved dog, best dressed hound and prettiest pooch were also handed out.
Jo Brown, events co-ordinator at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “It’s a relaxed event where dogs and their owners can meet while raising money for the hospice.
“The money will go towards the care of patients and families, and help us continue to run our services.”
The event was organised after the success of the first sponsored dog walk in April.
The hospice now intends to put on the event twice a year.
Jo added: “All the dogs were really well behaved and we hope to see them again next year.
“Thanks to Tesco at Lakeside who provided the doggy bags and refreshments.”
