MORE than 200 sheltered housing residents put on their blue suede shoes for a song and dance... and raised £2,238 for charity.

The Elvis-themed event at the Paddocks community centre, Canvey, was organised by Castle Point Council’s sheltered housing wardens.

Residents paid £5 each to watch Saul Watts perform a selection of Elvis’s greatest hits, while Carole Wilson sang a number of other classic tunes.

All profits from ticket sales and the raffle went to Havens Hospices.

Castle Point mayor Norman Ladzrie, who was at the event, said: “Everyone seemed to have a fantastic time.

“There were lots of people smiling and clapping, and the dance floor was busy too.”
