A CHARITY running art classes for people with disabilities started the new term on a high after being donated £700.

Canvey fundraising group, the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buffaloes, handed over a cheque to the Art Ministry, based at the United Reformed Church, in Church Road, Hadleigh, at a special party for the charity’s volunteers.

The party was also attended by Castle Point mayor Norman Ladzrie, who was so impressed with the charity’s work he decided to make it one of the charities of his year in office.

John Fowler, of the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buff-aloes, said: “My order exists purely to raise and distribute funds to deserving causes.

“This donation will enable the lodge to keep up the good work.”

The charity runs weekly classes for people of all ages, with various disabilities or health problems, including blindness, physical disabilities and mental health problems.

The classes are free and cover techniques from painting to basket weaving.

The Art Ministry is now in its 15th year and hopes to expand its range of classes this year to offer more for young people.

Founder of the ministry, the Rev Angela Cotton, said: “Thanks to these volunteers, organisers, sponsors and supporters the Art Ministry is in better shape than it has been for some years.”
