Pupils get first aid training
Furtherwick Park School, A Specialist College for the Media Arts held a Community Day on Friday 11th July 2008. Year 8 students took part in a variety of activities which gave them greater understanding of themselves and the wider community.
During the day, students experienced activities from the following groups: Petro Plus Basildon Women’s Refuge Connexions Essex Fire Brigade Essex Ambulance Service Canvey Community and Family Centre Each group gave the students information and tasks to develop such things as team work, self-confidence. Essex Ambulance Service gave a demonstration on various first-aid techniques; Fire Brigade gave demonstrations of safety in the home, including a terrifying demonstration of a chip pan fire; Connexions gave the students practical help in considering their future careers.
Mr Bradley, Community Co-ordinator, said “The staff and students gained a great deal from the activities and I would like to thank all of the groups for their time and excellent presentations”.
