Belfairs High School pupils learn to cycle safely

PUPILS at Belfairs School in Leigh took part in cycle training as part of a new road safety initiative.

Youngsters joined the Bikeability scheme with the assistance of Sara Hadden and other road safety advisers from Southend Council.

PE teacher Anthony Bees said: “The training aims to ensure every pupil at Belfairs who cycles to school, does so in a safe and responsible manner.

“Those who attend every session will receive high-visability gear, a lock, and helmet in recognition of having completed the course.”

Pity they aren't taught how to cross a road safely. Every morning I narrowly miss running at least 1 down as they casually wander into the road in front of the car. I'm prepared for them, but they are bound to meet someone who isn't and I just hope that noone is too badly injured.
