TWO bright 14-year-olds have just gained A grades in a GCSE exam – two years early.

Fitzwimarc School Year 9 pupils Alex Cambrey and Sean Cooper sat the media studies exam and walked away with the top marks.

GCSEs are normally taken by Year 11 pupils, aged 15 or 16, but the pair were entered early, after studying the course in their spare time.

Alex said: “We studied mainly at the weekend. I was nervous at the thought of taking such a big exam, but after I sat down, I felt relaxed and did my best.”

Sean added: “On results day I was terrified! When I opened the envelope I was really happy to see I’d achieved an A grade.”

Lynne Kelly, head of Year 9 at the Rayleigh school, said, “I’m thrilled both boys managed to take GCSE media studies a year early and get As. It’s quite outstanding.”
