PUPILS and staff at the FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh are making a special effort in aid of this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Prefects are selling poppies during the break and lunch times to aid the appeal for service men and women.

Assistant headteacher, Dave Wright said: “The FitzWimarc School feels it is very important that the sacrifices made in all wars do not go unnoticed. The history department will be holding assemblies on why we wear a poppy at this time of year and there is additional information in the school foyer.

“To fully understand the present we need to get to grips with the past. We try to open pupils’ eyes to the suffering and dedication of our elder statesman and women so that their fight for our freedom will never be forgotten.”
