ABSTRACT art enthusiasts are in for a treat when what is being described as a vibrant display of work opens at a Westcliff gallery.
Zarah Hussain’s exhibition, the Beauty of Abstraction, opens on Saturday, September 6 and runs until Saturday October 25 at the Beecroft Art Gallery, in Station Road.
Zarah is a Muslim artist, practising in the ancient Islamic tradition of geometric art and creating large-canvas works and light installations, accompanied by music.
A costume exhibition, dedicated to the Little Black Dress, is also running at the gallery at present.
It features exhibits from Southend Museums’ costume collection – from elegant Victorian mourning dresses to Goth-style PVC outfits. The Beecroft Art Gallery is open from 10am to 1pm and from 2 to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
On Saturday, October 11, the gallery is offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore the museums service’s behind-the-scenes costume collection.
The event will include an illustrated talk by museum staff about the collection, a guided tour and a chance to handle the historic costumes and accessories.
Admission to the event costs £5 and spaces are limited.
