THE oldest Neighbourhood Watch association in Southend is looking to expand its coverage.
The Bournes Green association was set up in 1985 and looks after 40 smaller groups between Glynde Way to Maplin Way North.
But there are about half a dozen roads in the Bournes Green area which are not covered.
Mick Holland, Southend district Neighbourhood Watch administrator, said: “Neighbourhood Watch groups do reduce crime and increase the confidence of crime being reduced.
“Insurance companies also offer discounts for neighbourhood watch areas.
“There are just a handful of roads which are not covered by the Bournes Green association. If anyone has any queries then please contact me and I will talk you through the process.
“The groups are kept up to speed with crime trends and they are given pens to mark property.”
He added setting up a watch group was not difficult or demanding, but could be very rewarding.
