Wetherspoons, Tesco's Express and more to open on the day of the Queen's funeral

The day will see many major shops and businesses across the UK close their doors and reduce hours as a mark of respect for the longest-reigning monarch.

The likes of Aldi, Lidl, and Morrisons are closed for the entire day and food chains including Greggs and McDonald's are closing their doors for reduced hours.

However, some stores and businesses will remain open for the day as owners were given the option to close or open during the national bank holiday.

What businesses will be open on the day of the Queen’s funeral?

Supermarkets

As thousands are expected to travel to the capital to pay their respects at the funeral, some convenience stores will remain open so the public can still access food and drink.

Seeing the likes of Sainsbury's Local’s central London shops remain open, whilst their national small stores and petrol stations will be open after the funeral from 5 pm until 10 pm.

Tesco Express stores in central London and Windsor will remain open whilst others in the country will open at 5 pm.

Waitrose is closing all stores apart from a limited amount in London that sit along the funeral procession route.

Although Asda does not have many small stores, their larger supermarkets will open at 5 pm after the funeral.

Pubs

Many national pub chains have shared that they will remain open as a place for communities to come together and celebrate the Queen.

With some opening earlier than usual to mark the two-minute silence in honour of the Queen at midday.

Wetherspoons has told customers that its central London, rail stations and hotels will remain open as normal under usual hours, however, all others across the country will open after the funeral.

Greene King shared that its central London pubs will be open, whilst venues with TVs will open as usual, but others will open later in the day.

JW Lees has confirmed that its 44 pubs across the country will remain open, along with Fullers Group which owns over 400 pubs.

Stonegate operates around 4,500 pubs and bars, including the Slug & Lettuce brand, and says it will allow them to remain open so people can celebrate the life of the Queen there.

Cinemas, Swimming Pools, Gyms and Holiday Parks

Earlier this week Centre Parcs backtracked on its decision to ask guests to leave sites on the day of Her Majesty's funeral.

The brand now says guests can stay on-site but all facilities including restaurants will be closed.

However, Butlins has said it will remain open but has amended its opening hours as a sign of respect to The Queen.

Cinemas including Odeon, Cineworld and Showcase have said they will all be closed for the day, whilst Vue Cinemas will remain open but will not be showing films and instead broadcasting the funeral at selected sites.

PureGym said it will be closed from 10 am until 2 pm nationwide whilst Better which also runs gyms said it will close all sites on the day.
