WICKFORD Independents have vowed to work with appropriate authorities to get a “police hub” in the area, candidates have said ahead of next week’s election.

Ahead of the May 2 elections, Wickford Independents are aiming to get a strong police presence in Wickford.

They hope to find a suitable place in Wickford for the police to have a manned desk so residents can visit and speak to an officer.

Wickford Independents also pledge to fight and ensure that Wickford “gets a fair deal” in council decisions.

Eunice Brockman, candidate for Wickford North Ward representing Wickford Independents, said: “It has been my pleasure to work hard all year round for the good of our town.

“I would hope that we could find a suitable place for the police to have a manned desk in there so that residents can visit and speak to an officer whilst in town.

“Ideally everyone would like police stations re-instated but sadly due to lack of funds, the building is being sold off, that is now not possible so a hub would be the next best thing.

“I know that if myself and my colleagues are voted in, we will be a strong presence on borough council and will fight hard to get the best for Wickford.

“I do hope that on Thursday our residents will take this into account when casting their votes.”

The Wickford Independents have vowed to look at what can be “improved” both in the short-term and long-term in regard to waste collection.

They say they will also work with, and put pressure on county councillors regarding potholes, footpath improvements and drain clearance.

The party has pledged to oppose green belt development and work to ensure that Basildon Council has a viable Local Plan in place with “what is best for Wickford” in mind.

The Wickford Independents say they will pressure the NHS to get better health facilities in Wickford, such as x-ray facilities, blood test facilities and other Primary Care.

The Echo will be publishing manifestos or election commitments for all political parties in the run-up to the May 2 election.
