Firefighters are currently tackling a large blaze close to a supermarket on Canvey.
Images on social media show smoke and flames rising from behind Northwick Road Morrisons, and firefighters are on the scene trying to bring the situation under control.
Reports on social media suggest the fire started at a car wash close to the supermarket.
It is understood that the fire service is currently attempting to tackle the fire.
Pictures from the scene show the fire has been extinguished, with police having closed Northwick Road.
A member of the public who wished not to be named said that there were "fears the fire could spread to the Morrisons car park," with customers urged to move away from the "very high flames."
Firefighters tackled the blaze from behind the fence separating the site of the fire and Morrisons.
Essex Fire has been contacted for comment.
