ENVIRONMENT AGENCY Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by the
Water Act 2003) Notice of application for a transfer licence to abstract (take) water. Bradwell Power Generation Company Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence. The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006. The application is for a licence to abstract water from the London Clay and overlying superficial alluvial deposits at Bradwell Power Station, Bradwell on Sea, Essex within an area between National Grid References TM 01071 08331, TM 01180 08369, TM 01243 08180 and TM 01136 08146 to transfer it to an unnamed ditch at National Grid Reference TM 01249 08474 at Bradwell on Sea without intervening use.
Abstraction is required for dewatering in order to carry out groundwater investigations (load testing). Dewatering will be required whilst the pit is being constructed, followed by normal operational testing. Additional quantities have been included to cover potential high rainfall events. The application is to abstract water as follows: Construction phase (first 30 days only)
? 24 cubic metres an hour ? 583 cubic metres a day Normal operation
? 12 cubic metres an hour ? 288 cubic metres a day
In flood events (maximum in a 1 in 100 year return period).
? 360 cubic metres an hour ? 1,300 cubic metres a day Annual quantity
? 116,000 cubic metres a year ? Abstraction will be required all year
The quantities above are given for assessment purposes only and will not be included on the licence. The proposed discharge of water associated with this application to abstract water is subject to a separate application by Bradwell Power Generation Company Limited for a water discharge activity.
