Swipe, Ghost, Scroll, Kiss
The premise of this exhibition by Andrew Howell at Colchester Library is to look at how we communicate in the present.
The importance of social media pressuring us to live out our lives in a series of photos and comments. How we now have a social media that can connect likeminded people together for one cause, or a series of algorithms that are directing likeminded people to look and see certain things. This double-edged sword of freedom of speech being abused by people in power to influence votes and public perception.
Swipe, Ghost, Scroll, Kiss are all words that are now used in reference to using social media and relationships with others. In this body of work, Andrew wanted to illustrate some of these points showing how we now use mobile phones and possibly the effects on people and behaviour. He has still included some abstract beach scenes which take some reference from growing up in Harwich on the east coast.
Colchester Library open Mon-Fri 9am-6:30pm Sat 9am-5:30pm Sun 1-4pm
