Veteran rocker Geezer Butler has spent a night in jail after he was arrested following a fight in a US bar.
The Black Sabbath bass player was arrested after a row broke out in the Corkscrew Saloon in California’s Death Valley.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office in Inyo County said they were called shortly after midnight on Tuesday (January 27) and arrested the star – real name Terence.
It said: “After the Inyo County sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and interviewed witnesses, it was determined that there had been an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation – resulting in an individual being struck, and a broken window.
“Terence Michael Butler, a 65-year old man from Beverly Hills, California, was arrested for misdemeanour assault, public intoxication and vandalism.
“Butler was booked into the Inyo County Jail and released after detox and citation.”
The Birmingham-born musician teamed up with schoolfriend Ozzy Osbourne in a succession of bands before finding fame with Sabbath in the early 1970s.
The band’s distinctive sound put them at the forefront of the heavy metal scene and saw them sell millions of records powered by the popularity of tracks including Paranoid and War Pigs which often had lyrics supplied by Butler.
They made a major comeback in 2013 with a number one album and sell-out tour.
