WHEN Simon Birkumshaw first decided to hold an annual house party at his home in Cold Norton, South Woodham Ferrers, he never envisaged it would become so big it would turn into a club night and a record label.

Fast forward five years and the 27-year-old club promoter and label owner is about to celebrate Sense Traxx’s fifth birthday with a colossal party, this Saturday at Talk Nightclub, Lucy Road, Southend, from 9pm until 4am.

The night will feature special guest Franky Rizardo, as well as Simon Shaw, Tom Jay and Finch Hare.

Simon said: “We have really pulled out all the stops, spent lots of money as well as putting our heart and soul into this night - it’s going to be special.

“Franky has been one of the biggest names on the scenes this summer and we are really excited to have him.

“I don’t want to give away too much and spoil the surprise, but we have also spent a lot on the production... we have lighting and 3D visuals, confetti, dancers... the music will be House, Deep, Techno.”

Despite living around 18 miles away from Southend, Simon says the town is where he grew the Sense brand, in many clubs, since closed down, such as the Sun Rooms in Market Place.

“We moved it around to keep it fresh. It’s a shame that some of these venues have now gone, but we want to bring back this party with a bang.. It’s definitely not a ‘too cool for school’ vibe. We have all kinds of people there, aged 18 to 40, as long as they are up for having a good time. I have to emphasise that this is a party night, something that aims to make people feel good, and we try to relate that attitude with the music we sign on the Sense Traxx label too.”
