TONIGHT (Friday February 9) is the night if you need an antidote to Valentine’s Day mush.

Southend’s White Bus Cinema, together with Alone in the Dark, is hosting a cult film night featuring two Valentine slasher classics.

The night kicks off with My Bloody Valentine 1981- uncut. The film is about a group of young people from a small mining town hell bent on holding a Valentine’s party. A few decades earlier an explosion at the mine trapped six miners underground. One, Harry Warden, survived, though in a deranged state. Warden is sent to a mental hospital but escapes and murders those he deems responsible for the mine accident. Now people are being brutally murdered again, and the townsfolk suspect that it is the work of Harry Warden. The second film, X-RAY aka Be My Valentine or Else (1981) sees divorcee Susan Jeremy go to a local Los Angeles county hospital for a routine exam and finds herself stranded there while a maniac, dressed in a doctor’s surgical mask and clothing, goes around killing all the staff. Could it possibly be the psycho Harold, who killed a friend of Susan’s on Valentine’s Day years earlier?

Super sentimental stuff- not.. The slasher night runs from 6.30pm-12am at the White Bus Cinema at the Old Waterworks in North Road, Southend. First screening at 7pm. Tickets: £5 (no pre-booking).
