EXPERTS say Southend’s foreshore is NOT eroding due to dredging work for the £1.5billion superport being built upriver.

The Environment Agency launched an urgent investigation last August after fishermen said mud was disappearing from Southend’s shore as firm DP World dug a channel along the estuary large enough for huge ships to dock at the London Gateway port at Corringham.

The independent 11-month study found no difference in the seasonal changes to the foreshore since the Dubai-based firm began dredging in 2010.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The report suggests the frontage as a whole has not experienced anything other than cyclical, natural changes over the years and it has not varied significantly since dredging activities commenced.”
