A HORTICULTURAL show held in Great Wakering was a big success.
The event, which took place on Monday, was organised by Great Wakering Garden and Allotment Society.
Horticultural judge Mike Taylor, and cookery and handicraft judge, Gill le Grys, picked thebest out of the classes for flowers, vegetables, homecraft, decorative and junior gardeners.
Leslie Marshall, fundraiser for the Great Wakering Community Association, said: “It was a superb event, and we were so lucky it was such a beautiful day.
“It was an excellent show and we had a fantastic turnout – many people in the village come along just for the social side of it, because it’s a very good social event.”
Winners at the event included Derek Everett, who won two trophies for flowers, Brian Everett, who won four trophies for vegetables, and Charlotte Cochriane, who walked away with best children’s exhibit.
Ruth Rippingale and Tamsin Butler won a joint trophy for best out of the decorative section, and Ruth also achieved ‘best exhibit’ in the show.
There were ploughman’s lunches, cream teas and refreshments available, as well as stalls by the local Scouting group and Women’s Institute. All proceeds were donated to the Great Wakering Community Association.
