CHEERLEADERS, gymnasts and a marching band helped raise £1,000 for a foodbank.

Shoebury Fair, which saw Shoebury-based cheerleaders Essex Stars, gymnasts from a number of schools, choir Shoebury Dynamix and Shoebury Army Cadets perform on the old Hinguar School playing fields, in George Street, Shoebury, raised cash for foodbank Share.

Elizabeth Stoner, who runs the foodbank, said: “It’s very exciting. The organisers of the fair are carrying on all they do for the community and carrying on helping people less fortunate than themselves.

“We rely totally on donations, so when food isn’t donated, we will use this money to top up supplies.”

The foodbank provides food parcels for families in the SS3 post code with children under 18 living at home from Shoebury and Thorpe Bay Baptist Church every Thursday.

The service, launched in January last year, helps 55 families a week on average and costs £500 to £600 per week to run.
