Missed – Doris Flaherty died aged 106
THE funeral of Canvey’s oldest resident will take place later this month.
Doris Flaherty passed away on August 31, aged 106.
The funeral service will take place at Leigh Beck Baptist Church at 11am on Friday, September 19.
Dozens of islanders have paid tribute to Doris, who moved to the island in 1946.
Canvey councillor Ray Howard said: “Her memories of the island were tremendous and she will be missed.
What a remarkable lady. I send my deepest condolences – Canvey has lost a very special person.”
Just two weeks before her death, videos of Doris recalling her memories of Canvey were posted online as part of the Canvey Community Archive.
Residents who knew Doris are welcome to attend the service.
