A ROW over roof repairs is making life miserable, claims a council tenant.
Patricia Robertson, of Vicarage Close, Benfleet, has had problems with the roof at her home since August last year.
Mrs Robertson, who is a council tenant, says the main roof of her house was cleared of asbestos but a leaking flat roof, at the back of her property, was left.
The frustrated pensioner said: “It’s had a tarp on it since last year.
I don’t know what to do and I’m getting so upset over this. It’s been a year and they are not bringing it up to standard.”
After the council moved her boiler to the outbuilding, Mrs Robertson began to use it as a utility room and moved her washing machine and tumble dryer there.
A Castle Point spokeswoman said, due to the change of use, it was Mrs Robertson’s responsibility to fix the roof.
The spokeswoman said: “Mrs Robertson is trying to get the council to repair the roof of an outbuilding which has been converted into a utility room without council consent as required under the tenancy agreement. Consequently, it is the tenant’s responsibility for such a repair.”
