A MAN died after his car crashed into the garden wall of a house in Stanford-le-Hope.

The man, in his 50s and from the Stanford-le-Hope area, was released from the car by neighbours and kind passers-by who rushed to help.

Emergency services were called to the collision, which occurred where Branksome Avenue meets Oxley Gardens, at around 12.15pm on Sunday.

A grey Vauxhall - which belonged to Stanford-le-Hope based taxi firm Whitehall - had crashed into the garden wall of a property.

An air ambulance arrived, bringing a specialist heart doctor. The man was taken to Basildon Hospital by road ambulance but sadly passed away later.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved but the road was closed for three hours while police officers carried out investigations.

A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of an accident involving a car and a house.

"The vehicle had left the roadway and gone into the property.

"Ambulance service paramedics were called to the scene to deal with one male casualty. The casualty had been released before the arrival of crews."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Any witnesses or anyone with information about events leading to the incident should contact the investigating officer Pc Joe Gasparini at Chigwell road policing office on 101."
