ALEXANDRA Street was closed by firefighters and police after a loose banner smashing a window began raining glass down on the street below.
One fire crew attended Basement nightclub at about 11am after one of the club’s banners on the first floor came loose and, billowing in the wind, began smashing a window behind it.
Firefighters used an extendable ladder to remove the banner while PCSOs ensured no traffic or pedestrians went near the building, sealing it off with incident tape.
After ensuring the banner frame was safe, firefighters swept up the broken glass on the street before leaving at about 11.30am.
