NOT a glow stick or glitter ball in sight – this former nightclub has been restored to its original Georgian splendour.

The Manor House is an exquisite seven-bedroom property situated in the Milestone Green development in Copford.

On the market for a guide price of £1,695,000, the beautifully proportioned 19th-century property has been turned into a luxuriously furnished residence.

Brothers Mark and Jason Harding, directors of Harding Homes in Colchester, have carefully renovated the palatial building to create a property which balances classic period style with contemporary comfort.

The Manor House was formerly the Escape Nightclub, which opened in 2006. It featured two bars and girls’ “twobicles”, which hold two loos and cages for dancers.

Mark assures me that no remnants of the nightclub remain.

He says: “Anyone who comes to see the Manor House will not believe that it was once a nightclub. We have worked hard to bring it back to its original glory and stayed true to the Georgian architecture.

“We are extremely proud of the property and satisfied that it has been completed to the highest standard.”

The Manor House is situated at the heart of the exclusive, gated development. The site also features eight five-bedroom homes, which were completed last summer.

The Manor House was the last of the properties to be completed.

Mark says: “This beautiful historic house was an exciting project for us because of its sophisticated original style and the great potential it held to become somewhere that was simply breathtaking.”

Although the house was in need of a lot of refurbishment, it did have some lovely features to work with. The high ceilings, beautiful sash windows and generous Georgian proportions gave the developers scope to create a truly wonderful home.

Built as a neo-classical white-brick villa, the Manor House epitomises the architectural vision of the early 19th century.

Mark and Jason were careful not to lose its innate charm and quality and they retained the striking glass cupola, recreated the feature staircase and incorporated traditional fittings, such as wooden sash windows, deep cornices and skirting.

The spacious accommodation is spread over four floors and features two kitchens, a dining room, drawing room which opens onto the elegant orangery (where the dance floor used to be), cinema room with a 60 inch Bang and Olufsen screen, games room, bar and wine cellar.

Upstairs, there are seven bedrooms, including two master bedroom suites with walk-in dressing rooms, and five bathrooms and to the front there are four garages.

Mark says: “We have also added a host of creature comforts, including a smart designer kitchen by Urban Myth. It features Miele appliances and has a fabulous breakfast area, with doors that can be pulled back on to the Italianate garden in the summer.”

Mark and Jason travelled to Chelsea and Knightsbridge in order to research the most cuttingedge interior design ideas for fixtures and fittings.

Mark says: “The attention to detail in the Manor House goes right through to the bathrooms, which come from The Albion Bath Company and feature beautiful roll-top baths and televisions.

“From the bespoke joinery and the glass cupola and balustrades to the designer wallpapers, chandeliers, decorative radiators and dressing room cabinetry, this is a home, which exudes style and comfort, as well as all the grandeur of its past.”
