A MAN who oversaw the printing of hundreds of thousands of copies of this newspaper was remembered by family, friends and former colleagues at a moving service at Chelmsford Crematorium.
The chapel was packed for the farewell to Eric Bowers, from South Woodham, who died last month, three days after his 83rd birthday.
The service, conducted by the Rev Jane Richards, was to celebrate the life of a man who retired as machine room manager at the Echo’s Basildon offices and works after a 40-year career with the company.
It was recalled that Eric, a well-known sports enthusiast for many years in Woodham and a stalwart supporter of St John Ambulance locally, had connections with South East Essex from his teenage years.
He had begun his then compulsory national service at the old Shoebury Garrison.
Donations in his memory are for Little Havens Children’s Hospice and for St John.
