A CANVEY school is getting ready to celebrate 50 years of teaching children this year.

An invitation is extended to all former staff and students of Furtherwick Park School.

Over the next few months, several events are being held at the school which are open to all islanders.

In particular Furtherwick wants to hear from those connected with the school in the past who would like to attend a hog roast barbecue on Friday, July 13, from 4pm in the school grounds.

A complimentary drink will be waiting on arrival, followed by a feast of freshly prepared hog roast or vegetarian roast.

Anyone who has been associated with the school and wants to reunite with fellow school chums, should call Alison Manderfield on 01268 682157.

Other forthcoming events include: l A day to meet and remember old school chums and teachers from Monday, April 30, to Thursday, May 17, between 9am and 1pm l A free cheese and wine evening on Thursday, May 10, from 6pm to 8pm l Fifities day for pupils on May 2 with Fifites themed lessons, Fifites dress, burying of a time capsule and a disco after school playing the Top 50 songs nominated by pupils l Guided school tours will be held from Monday, May 14, to Wednesday, May 16, between 9am and 1pm l Fifties night on May 18. with Fifities band, the TTs. People should bring their own refreshments. It starts at 7.30pm and finishes at 11.30pm.
