I was amazed to read skateboparders are being blamed for the theft of car number plates (Apr 17).

I jumped up, grabbed a tape measure and measured the number plate on my car, my dad's car and van, and my sister's car. I than measured the base underneath my skateboard and found it would be impossible to fix a number plate underneath, as described in the article.

A numberplate is roughly 20.5ins x4.5ins and the gap between both of the trucks on the skateboard is around 13.5ins - that's lengthways.

If you were to place them side-to-side it would be roughly 9ins and the width of the skateboard ranges from around 7.5ins to 8ins.

It would not offer any protection against it snapping either, as the wood is already strengthened through the concave and wood type. So if your foot goes through the wood; a thin plastic strip doesn't stand a chance.

I suggest the blame for stolen number plates belongs to car cloners, not skateboarders.
