It seems that after any road fatality the need for immediate traffic calming measures is a must, but clear thinking also has to be addressed.
I am not against road safety or the need to reduce speed, but accidents do happen and however hard we all try, we will not stop them, in particular freak accidents.
I live and work in Leigh and most of the time the area surrounding the site on the recent fatal accident at the junction of Rectory Grove and Elm Road is congested with slow or stationery traffic.
While there may be the odd idiot who feels the need to drive irresponsibly, these people can be a danger on any road, with or without speed restrictions.
It is up to the police to determine how this accident occurred, not the residents of Leigh.
My sincerest condolences to Sheri Lawrence's family and friends in particular to her fiance John Hearne.
