A spectacular light show will be one of the highlights of the Christmas season in Southend.

The show, by Southend company Kiwi Productions, will beam animated images on to the M Local building in the High Street.

There will also be fake snow provided by a snow machine to get viewers further into the Christmas spirit.

The show takes place every evening between December 5 and 12, on five minute loops. It starts at 4pm and runs until ???

The first evening will also be hosted by Radio Essex, who will also be bringing hundreds of voices together in a mass “carol-oke”.

Southend BID manager Alison Dewey said: “The unique multimedia, multi-sensory animated 4D experience is something really new for Southend and which we are all really excited about - I am sure it will bring lots of people to the town centre with their families to enjoy it for the week it is on display."

The High Street itself will also be painted as the Yellow Brick Road from the Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy’s house being set up at the top of the High Street on December 5 from 11am.

Dorothy will take shoppers on a tour, meeting Scarecrow, Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Munchkins and the Wizard himself.

A “5D” movie simulator will also be set up outside Lloyd’s Bank on the High Street, in which five to ten minute films will feature special effects in time with the film, such as wind, bubbles, snow.

This event will be free on December 5 and with a £5 charge between December 6 and 24.
