The Palace Hotel opened in 1901 as the Metropole and swiftly became popular with holidaymakers.

During the First World War, the Government used it as a hospital for casualties from the Somme, Verdun and Ypres. In 1957 the Burstin family took it over and Stephen and Ivor Burstin ran it.

Today it is owned by the Park Inn hotel group and has recently undergone a £25million refurbishment and offers 137 luxury rooms.
