LABOUR councillor Clare Baldwin has been on arrested on suspicion of internet harassment, the Gazette can reveal.

The Tilbury Riverside and Thurrock Park ward councillor was arrested on January 7, and has since been released on bail pending further enquires.

The councillor has also been suspended by Labour, a party spokesman has confirmed.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the arrest. She said: “A 42-year-old woman from Tilbury was arrested on Thursday, January 7, on suspicion of harassment.

“She was taken to Grays Police station for questioning and later released on police bail until Wednesday March 2 pending further enquiries.”

A Thurrock Council spokeswoman said it would be inappropriate for them to comment on a police matter.

A spokesman from the East of England Labour office said: “Clare Baldwin has been suspended from the Labour Party."
